Probably one of the most famous gardens in the world, the Keukenhof is now in full bloom.I always regret that we didn’t get there when we visited a good friend near The Hague during the years we lived in Zurich, but I have thought about it every April since! Here is some history:

The land in the 15th century was originally hunting grounds. It was then owned by several families, one of them was Jacoba van Beiren Keukenhof.
After Keukenhof died, the land became the property of Baron and Baroness Van Pallandt who invited landscape architects J.D. and L.P. Zocher, designers of the Amsterdam Vondelpark, to make a design for the garden around the castle. This design, in the English landscape style, has always been the basis of Keukenhof.
At the moment, the estate belongs to a Foundation. On the initiative of the Lisse Mayor of that time and a number…

Easter Wreath

dandelions & dreams

Procrastination is my worst enemy. I have been wanting to make a Spring wreath since, well post Valentines. But I wanted to use fresh flowers and a bird’s nest. Yet, none of those things presented themselves to me. Then yesterday my hubby & I were doing yard work and a small branch had broken off a tree with a perfect little birds nest attached. There we go! I clipped a few wild growing flowers and added the bird’s nest. Now for the eggs. My options were quite limited so I wound up using Play-doh.

I think it turned out quite pretty. And I am might proud of my play-doh eggs if I do say so myself. I am guessing it won’t look like that tomorrow though! A little wilting wisteria anyone?

Spring Themed Wreath

I AM OBSESSED with wreaths that have eggs on them!

The Pinners Interest

Spring has finally sprung yayy! As you can probably tell…I like wreaths! I think they are a great entrance piece, especially for welcoming guests. Originally I wanted to make an Easter wreath but realized It couldn’t stay up as long as a seasonal wreath. So I went on a Pinterest search for my perfect spring wreath and quickly one stood out above the rest.

The original Pin links to Google images so sadly there was no instructions on how to put the wreath together so I made the instructions up myself.

Supplies that I used:

  • Vine Wreath
  • Fake Flowers
  • Small Pre-Made Birds Nest (If you are not able to find a birds nest you can make you with moss and a smaller vine wreath like I did)
  • Wire
  • Feathers
  • 2 or 3 Small Styrofoam Eggs
  • Craft Paint
  • Twine or Ribbon
  • White Glue (Only need this if you are making the birds nest)
  • And…

DIY: April Showers Bring May Flowers

I LOVE THIS

a little more lovely

My newly married (and now domesticated) sister recently sent me a picture of a spring wreath that she wanted to buy for her front door. After seeing my last silk flower DIY, she asked me if I could make her a similar wreath. I agreed but having never decorated (or even owned) a wreath before, I advised her to keep her expectations low. Much to my surprise though, it ended up being an incredibly easy project that took only a little over an hour. At only about $15-$20 in material costs, it’s an affordable and fun way to spruce up your entryway for spring.

Scroll for step-by-step directions.

DIY Spring Flower WreathMaterials

  • 1 grapevine wreath
  • 2-3 bunches silk tulips
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors or wire cutters

Directions

  1. If silk flower stems can be pulled off wire, pull off and dispose of wire base. If stems do not pull of base, clip the…

Fall have been on my mothers mind.

Fall have been on my mothers mind.

She made this one not long ago. I guess this is the type of wreath that could look good in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. However, I think it fits Fall the most.
